Would a Web Cam Cause Link Spam?
-
We posted a streaming video cam we own of a popular surf break in Capitola (foxxr.com/cam) and it's getting picked up by web cam directories. We have quite a bit of traffic from these cam directories, so we posted a site audit tool in on that page to generate some leads. Our website is about internet marketing. Our concern is about irrelevant link sources appearing spammy to Google. Would a web cam link do more harm than good in this case?

This probably won't be seen as spammy by Google. It probably only impacts your backlink profile a small amount. How many links do these cam directories generate.

You mention they're driving traffic, but it is highly doubtful that any of that traffic will convert to leads. Have you been tracking the lead form on that page? I would be a little concerned about receiving a lot of links from web cam directories, or links about surfing, to a marketing company website. It's just too unrelated. However, as long as these only represent a small part of your overall backlink profile (think single digit percentages) you will probably be OK.
