Quickview popup duplicate content

Hi

We have an eccomerce site. We just added to the product list view a quickview tab - when you roll mouse over it a popup window with the product image and short description shows up - is this a problem of duplicate content( its the same content that's on the product pages except there we also have a long detailed description) - t is done with javascript.

Hey henya,

It might depends on how the popup is implemented. You might not have to worry about the issue if the popup is completely done in Javascript.

If it's fully done in Javascript, the crawler won't see the content (because it doesn't exist yet; the JS creates it.)

Hey There,

I had the exact same problem with two of my websites,

My solution was as follow:

I saw there was a common character in the poppup's dynamic url that was no where else on my site's other url's eg: "?". I went and dissallow the "?" as follow in my robots.txt.

Disallow: /?

Although all of these url's (pages) was not being crawled anymore I thought I would loose PA. But still took the gamble to see what will happen.

Its been six months and my ranking has gone up on both sites.

Disallow in robots would work - especially if the JS is actually rendering a pop up PAGE not a snippet existing on the page. If possible, I would prefer the use of Rel Canonical on those pop up pages - Google is funny sometimes and indexes URLs if you dissallow them in robots.
