SEO And Images: 2014 Tips
-
What is a good "image" strategy? All I really know is to make sure to use images that you create yourself and/or images that are approved for free commercial use and add alt tags. Right now, just making sure all our pages have images and updating some of the lower quality ones would surely help us, but I'm hoping someone can add a little detail into how best to use images for seo, conversions and how to avoid slowing our site way down by adding more (we do have the smushit plugin which helps some).
Thanks,
Ruben

Google Images doesn't send much traffic anymore since it was updated, and the quality of traffic was never that good to begin with. However, if you have a lot of high quality images, using an Image Sitemap can help them get indexed:

Also, in addition to the alt tag, make sure to give your images a descriptive file name, so "panda-eating-shoots.jpg" vs "IMG0001.jpg".

Takeshi hit it right on. You could also look at adding more text (like a caption) that is relevant to the image. Link to it if you have to. Go into photoshop and add metas for the image. Oh, and what works for us in terms of image traffic nowadays are highly popular personalities or brands. They send a lot of traffic, but not that good of a quality
