Competitive Analysis Tools
-
Good afternoon Mozzers,
The question is simple: I am using Moz to analyze competition with the keyword difficulty tool, however I would like to cross reference the analysis with other online tools.
What are your favorites and why? Remember this is strictly for _competition_analysis.
Thanks!

I don't do much in the way of competitive research anymore given that the majority of my work is now doing strategic audits (competitive analysis is a tactical level effort). However, when I do, I like SEMRush - several different comparison charts and spreadsheets you can get including keywords they rank for (along with relevant data), organic visibility comparison (up to five sites in each chart and you can run through that for as many as you want), and other great data.

I agree with Alan. SEMRush all the way. I highly recommend Annie Cushing's presentation from MozCon 2013. She discusses how you can do some pretty amazing competitive analysis using SEMRush and some pivot tables that she provides tutorials for in her accompanying blog post. I am not a Moz affiliate, just a fan, but if you can swing the $299 for the videos I'd go for it. If you by any chance attended Mozcon they are available to you free and you probably already know that Annie's presentation was ripe with info on this topic. Good luck!
P.S. I also use AWR, [Advanced Web Ranking] but find it stodgy in terms of pulling data out and showing it to stakeholders in any kind of meaningful way. Perhaps some other folks here might have some tips on that if you're curious about AWR.

LOL Dana,
I was going to mention Annie since she's the best in the business when it comes to tapping data in spreadsheets, but didn't know (or more likely didn't remember) she's got a Mozcon Presentation on the topic and didn't mention her because I didn't want to make it seem like I was promoting her business. Yet she really is my own go-to resource for advanced spreadsheet work...
