As an example, if i write an article on 12 best print ads by BMW, it will have 12 images and possible 12 single liners and a paragraph.

The images will have the necessary alt tags. But overall, will this post be counted as low content and is there changes of being penalized by google for it?

Images are content too. So I would absolutely say no, it will not be categorized as thin content and don't worry about a penalty.

If the page adds value to the users, then you should be fine. If you want a chance to have the page rank in the SERPs, then I would however consider adding some kind of intro + a few paragraphs about each picture. Then Google can put the pictures in context and will at least have a chance to know what the page is about.

Thank you for the guidance. Yes i will add text. But then, in front of the creativity of BMW print ads, these words will be futile. But for the sake of SEO i will have to add a bit of it.

Also by Adding text between images you are more likely to keep a visitor longer on the specific page, which also inceases rankings and possibilities of conversions.

You can also convey text messages in the middle of a paragraph or text message. A post am working on we added a line that promotes the training courses page in the centre of two sets of text..see here:
