      Hi Everyone

I'm new to SEO so apologies if this is a silly question.

I'm using the unlinked mentions tool and as far as I can see the mentions are from my own site!

      I've attached a screen grab.

Am I being a muppet? I thought that it would show mentions on OTHER sites that I don't have a link back to my site! The screen grab appears to show links on my site, as in posts on my own forum?

      Thanks for your help!

        Hello NappyValleyNet

I took a look and recreated the issue myself. I tried it with and without the OR operator, etc. We need a Moz staffer to explain it but my guess is that the urls being dynamically generated is tied to the issue. To know it is dynamically generated as opposed to a static page, when you look at the URL you see question marks, equal signs, ampersands, etc.

Hey Moz Associates, hook us up pretty please 🙂

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

That does make sense, I'll manually weed them out but it stops it being a useful "quick check".

          Thanks again

Hey There, thanks for writing in and sorry that you are running into this issue.

The Unlinked Mentions query should automatically be including the search operator -rd:yourdomain.com when you go to that tab. For example, when I go to that tab while researching moz.com, the system autofills the mentions field with the search query: moz OR moz.com -rd:moz.com. The -rd: operator means "exclude this rootdomain."

Can you tell me if that operator is not being included automatically when you go to that tab or if you are removing it from the query? I tested this feature for a number of sites and the operator was correctly included automatically on all of the tests I've run, so I'm not certain why you may be running into issues with the operator. Any further details you can provide will help me dig into this further.
