      Hello mozzers,

I have a UK website that I have slowly been building high quality links to from highly trusted websites, traffic is slowly but steadily rising. So far all the links i've built are on UK websites. I've discovered there are many opportunities to get links from loosely related US websites. Would links from highly trusted US domains help my UK rankings? Would they help, but not as much as UK links? I'd be very grateful to hear anyones thoughts on this.

      Thank you so much!

Links you should be getting (related industries, etc.) shouldn't hurt you and can definitely help depending on the link source.

US links are generally .com, .net and .org.  I can't see Google devaluing those even if they point at a .co.uk  Imagine a NYTimes article pointing a link at BBC ... that would be the highest quality connection, right? But they're related industries and across the pond.

Would I get one from a .us site? I mean ... maybe? If it's a really decent link, sure. But I wouldn't want 50 .us domains pointing at me. That's like .ru, .ro, .ar and .it - the more of those other country extensions you have may indeed show signs of spam (there are great .ro links and great .ar links ... but if you see them, there are usually 50 of them and they were bought links.)

Is your service/product offered internationally? If so, it would be appropriate.

If not, how 'loosely' do those sites relate to yours? If you share a common target audience/common theme, the links could still be valuable. If those sites have the potential to send you relevant visitors (in addition to link weight), they have value.

If they come from decent websites, at very worst they won't harm you.

I don't think that US links will hurt you. It will help you, as long as the link makes sense. If you sell design services and you are listed in a design website or blog in one, its fine. If the niche is related, then I see no harm at all.

              Hi Lucy,

Getting links from US sites will definitely help your site build authority. I would go after those just as much as UK sites. If you think of how you naturally share things online, the domain that it sits on doesn't matter. Assuming the content is in your primary language, you share it regardless of the TLD. With content spreading faster than it ever has thanks to things like social media, I think the TLD of the domain linking will count less and less.

              I hope this helps.
