Hosting Videos. Go with Youtube, Vimeo, or Wistia?
-
Hey guys , Happy Tuesday !
I am not too familiar with Seo for Videos too much except for the fact that Youtube has some really good tools to do SEO for videos.
But i am wondering which company i should go with when hosting a video.
1. Youtube channel ? and utilize what they have
2. Vimeo and get their business package and analytics and all the goodies
3. Wistia , which i am not really familiar with .
So my question is , when specifically talking about SEO for video for your videos to show up on Google and search engine searches, which company is best and what is each companies pros and cons.
Any help would be great !
Thanks Guys
Best Wishes,

Here's a post I think you may find useful (Youtube, Vimoe, and even Wistia are compared): http://www.seomoz.org/blog/hosting-and-embedding-for-video-seo
It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Do you want to focus on building up a channel on Vimeo/Youtube and drive traffic to your website from there, or do you want to use these videos as a smaller, supplemental tool?

All the video hosts have there advantages. Our preferred option is Vimeo but Youtube is sometimes a bit more flexible. But remember you have to use a pro account with vimeo ($199 PA) if your videos have commercial intent, where as YouTube is free. I cant comment on Wistia as I have never used them.

If you want your website to rank for the video and not youtube for example, you need to host the videos yourself by using a player like brightcove or flowplayer and not posted on another site and simply embedded on yours.
your own platform hosting videos means visitors will land on your site
youtube platform means visitors will land on youtube site

The Wistia heat map provides insight into how much of each video is viewed and replayed. It's more expensive than Youtube (free) and Vimeo Pro if you have more than several videos to host.

Irving, thanks for the reply.
A few questions.
1. Don't i get more exposure putting the videos on youtube, via search.
My goal is to have my videos searched on the search engines via select keywords.
ie: A have a mommy bloggers thats doing a video on how to diaper your baby, and i want the video to get the maximum exposure and use links on the video to land on our site to a blog post or the actual video post
2. would i get the same exposure using hosting on my site ?
Whats my best approach to maximize my efforts

Awesome post thanks for the reference .
So here is what i want to do .
My goal is to have my videos searched on the search engines via select keywords.
ie: A have a mommy bloggers thats doing a video on how to diaper your baby, and i want the video to get the maximum exposure and use links on the video to land on our site to a blog post or the actual video post
So what do you think my best method will be ?
Youtube or host on my site with vimeo or wistia
remember i want the maximum exposure in search

When you say "search", do you want people to find and view your videos, or do you want people to find and view your videos on your website? Youtube will outrank your website, so if you put the video on both youtube and embed the youtube video on your webpage, Google will return the youtube version. If your goal is to get people to watch your videos, then youtube is fine. If you want people to watch the videos on your website, then one of the fee-based solutions is a better solution for you.

I recommend having a read of the following posts i've written on this topic. The answer is always somewhat nuanced, but hopefully this will give you a good overview of the perspective you should be taking when trying to answer your question.
