This is going to sound like a weird question...

I'm curious to know whether there is a natural fluctuation in the actual number of searches being made online each week. It would be great to relate this to the performance of my own organic traffic each week.

For example, if organic search traffic is down 10% week on week, is that because search in general is down 10%?

Has anybody ever looking into this?

        Hi Karen

You could use your Search Console data and watch your average positions and search queries (with change) data:

        To do this:

        • Login to Search Console
        • Click "Search Queries" under "Search Traffic" in the left sidebar menu in the profile
        • Click "Top queries"
        • Click "With change" under the graph
        • See if impressions are going up or down
        • See if your positions are changing
        • If impressions are going down but your positions stays in the same area, search is probably down
        • If impressions are going up but your positions go down, then it's probably a site/content issue
        • I would also check your CTR and meta descriptions

You can also keep an eye on Google Trends as they keep very good track of search for different queries. Also, MozCast is a good friend as well to help you gauge fluctuations in SERPs.

        Hope this helps! Good luck!

          Thanks heaps Patrick.

Do you know any way that we could see the aggregate volume of searches on Google over time?

Kind of like a google trends report for all searches?

          Will
