        Hi there

According to SEMRush, while note specifically ranking for that phrase "reverse mortgage", you're ranking for a TON of other reverse mortgage long tail - so I would be extremely happy about that.

This is a very broad search term, and you're competing against the likes of FTC.gov, Wikipedia, hud.gove, aarp.org, and more. You're going to have a hard time there.

I would focus more on opportunities around what your audience is actively searching for. I would imagine with people looking for reverse mortgages they have specific issues that could be a ton of potential content for you guys.

You could do competitive analysis around the top ranking sites for this search, but I honestly think your efforts/energy would be focused on creating content around specific reverse mortgage opportunities.

        Hope that helps! Good luck!

          Hi Patrick,

Yes, you are correct, SEMRush does show us ranking for a strong number of long-tail 'reverse mortgage' phrases. The thing about SEMRush is that it will occasionally show AAG ranking in position 12 or 13 for 'reverse mortgage.' At the end of the day, I'm not looking to outrank FTC, Wikipedia, HUD, or any of those more authoritative websites, but I do want to be able to complete with them. From my perspective, we're doing what we need to do to rank, but Google doesn't want to rank up for whatever reason.

Looking at the competitive landscape, I've gone through all of them. We all have the same back links, AAG is more socially active, AAG has more content (long-tail targeting or otherwise), etc. So it just hasn't clicked yet, which is the unfortunate part.

          Thanks!

            Just an opinion.

AAG has a ton of cookie cutter pages like this (click through any state to see a doorway page)...  https://www.aag.com/states

These pages could be causing a Panda problem.

These pages could be A) deleted, B) noindexed, C) improved to make them real content.  (I would do C if these pages pull traffic)

              Hi EGOL,

I didn't think of this particular angle. I'll try removing the pages from the index while we work on improve the overall quality of the content.
