I looked up that testimonials for like, some of our providers, with a backlink back to us, is a legitimate backlink.

The thing is they are a provider, not necessarily in the same industry as us.

Yes, these type of links can help. A lot depends on the link itself. Is it using a commercial anchor? Not as good for this type link. Does it say "paid" or "sponsored" anywhere near the links (even though they aren't paid?) Again, bad. How related/unrelated is it? What's the OBL of the page it's coming from? (If they have 3 testimonials, great. 300, probably not as valuable.)

As with any link you create yourself, Google would rather you didn't create links but earned them. However, these type are some easy "natural" wins - as they would occur with or without Google. The questions I would ask are: do I want my link on this page and if a Google rep found it, could I explain why it's there?

In this case, if both answers are yes I'd be happy to have that link.
