      Hello,

I have two websites within a similar niche...some of the top organic traffic driving pages on Website B I'd like to redirect to a similar page on Website A. The reason is Website A is a bigger and better and is monetized much better as well.

I only want to redirect a few of the main URLS on Website A and also only those that I have similar content on my main Website B.

Is this process safe for SEO? What is the best way to go about this process. I am not really concerned with Website B and what happens to it's rankings, but in the meantime, I'd like to redirect the traffic from some of it's main organic traffic driving pages to my main website A and to it's similar pages.

I am also concerned with making sure my main website A stays white hat and doesn't receive any negativity from these redirects.

      Thanks.

I would be very leery about redirecting across domain for just some pages while leaving others, it seems like this practice could easily be viewed as negative by Google.

          What would your approach be?

I would not risk it unless you are shutting down website B completely, otherwise you can beef up your content on site A or your ability to convert on site B.

I have no problem shutting down website B, I just wanted to leverage the traffic it is currently getting...

How can I go about redirecting the entire website? Can I redirect specific urls to specific pages on website A, and those pages I don't have a similar content page for, just redirect to the homepage?

Anyone with insight, please share! 🙂

Without getting too technical, .htaccess might be the solution you are looking for. This will allow you to retain both websites and transfer your organic traffic without risk of penalty. You can find .htaccess commands in the link below:

                http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/85/Using+.htaccess+rewrite+rules#gs/-httpexamplecomfolder1-to-httpexamplecomfolder2--

At the end of the day, you can insert the following into the .htaccess on your web hosting:

                Redirect 301 /url1 (Website B) http://www.newsite.com/url1 (Website A)
                Redirect 301 /url2 (Website B) http://www.newsite.com/url2 (Website A)
                Redirect 301 /url3 (Website B) http://www.newsite.com/url3 (Website A)
                Redirect 301 /url4 (Website B) http://www.newsite.com/url4 (Website A)

If you are looking for a redirection tool without needing .htaccess (and are using wordpress), I have found that this one works wonders:

                https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/

Either way, I don't think there is much to worry about in regards to risking negative effects as long as you are not transferring urls with penalties on them already.
