Looking at the source code it looks like the links are nofollowed or buried in javascript include files. Any workarounds to get a followed link?

Also, in general is it better to post PDFs, PPT files or something else in terms of usability and potential link building?

Lastly it looks like Slideshare has a translate section. Has anyone seen a bump in local citations by adding the address to the presentation?

Any other thoughts on building authority through document sharing sites?

      Thanks

Yes, and yes. i've used Scrib and other social sharing sites and I've had an effective bump in "authority" even though no-follow may have been added to the link. I assume you're looking at Google and what the CURRENT strategy of link building relates to rank, but if you look at the evolution of the Goolge search algorithm over the last 12 years the quality of the domain term - www.yourdomain.com - and the associated content over time relates to it's ranking.

Having ran my own successful dotcom and managed it's SEO I couldn't afford to look at the short game, a game many for-hire SEO groups often do until they've had the client for awhile.

Don't look at it so much as "link building" but "brand building" ( you'll notice google and sites like this even have a vector to measure brand awareness". The quality of the material you submit to these social material sites reflects on your site/brand; but if the material is good it will be cited more on these sites, liked me, talked about more, exchanged more and that measure Google will take notice of ( all of them as a matter of fact ).

WARNING: the one mistake that many young SEO managers do it put out material left and right and hope for best, just as will link farms if you put material out on the sites with your link embedded and it's removed shortly there after Google will take it as you trying to play the system.

Write and submit material that compliments and supports your site, try creating a series and submit the same material into the same account in different formats to support those that only have Word, PDF or PPT - you won't be penalized if provided in one submission vs. submitting the same material over time.

Additionally think about rethinking your site-to-platform. If you website is great as a website how would it look in ebook form? Create the ebook version with a reference to the website.

Lastly - if you're submission is material specific to a page on the site link to the page, not to the home page.

        Have fun!

Thanks I appreciate the response. I'm definitely looking at as a long term strategy to build authority. Do you see any downside to submitting to all three sites? Obviously creating duplicate content but seems to me it should fall into the same category as video sites where the dup content doesn't really hurt you. I don't know if that is the case so would like to hear from those that have more experience submitting to the document sharing sites.

If there are issues with dup content is it best to pick one site and build up a channel or mix up your submissions across all three. Thanks
