It all depends if there are any backlinks pointing to http://devbasu.com, as this is the only factor that should have any effect now on poweredbysearch.com.

As soon as you remove the redirect, if there are any backlinks still there, their influence will once again go to http://devbasu.com, and no longer to poweredbysearch.com. So it depends on how many backlinks there are, how good they are and what the anchor text is on them;.

So potentiality yes, it could effect the ranking of poweredbysearch.com

          Max is correct.

There seems to be a myth that 301's do more than redirect a request. I have heard people saying that you can 301 page authority, good will, domain age and other nonsense, a 301 simply redirects a request.

If you have external links pointing to old site, then handle them to your best advantage using a 301 redirect, otherwise you have nothing to worry about

I agree with Max as well.

I would just add that one option would be to redirect the specific URLs of the old site (if you still know them or have them logged somewhere) and not use the wildcard redirects. That way any links going to the old site, would still redirect, but you would be free to create new pages on the site that would not be redirected.

It will take a few weeks to sort out, not a problem.

but if you have any links to the non www version, then they will now be redirected, each redirect leaks link juice

                    Its a matter of choice.

I prefer example.com, if your web site answers to both www.example.com and example.com then why not use the most simple example.com

                        I don't think so.

A long time ago in first days of the internet websites were no more widley used than other protocols such as ftp or telnet. a domain may have sub domains such as ftp.example.com, telnet.example.com or www.example.com. but example.com itself would not be used, since then websites are the main protocole used and people started to make example.com respond to websites. so really we don't need www anymore but best to redirect it just in case
