My firm (a real estate brokerage) works with an offshore Argentinian developer who is generally very reliable and efficient. We have requested that three pop-up forms be implemented. The pop-up forms  appear once visitors see a fixed number of property listings. Visitors will see form #1 after viewing three listings, form #2 after seeing another 3 listings and form #3 after another three listings. The pop-ups are in the form of a question. If the visitor clicks "Yes" the pop-up expands into a form, the visitor fills in the contact info and subsequent forms no longer appear. I have attached mock ups for  the pop-up and the expanded pop-up.

I am concerned about the 9 hours of programming time to implement these pop-ups. Is this excessive or is it reasonable? For me, it seems like this would be pretty quick and standardized to accomplish with a Wordpress plugin. But maybe with testing and other tasksI am wrong.  I would appreciate some feedback on this. I do not want to underpay or overpay my developer. But I would feel reassured knowing that they are working productively and accomplishing tasks in a reasonable amount of time.

Specs provided by my developer below:

      | 1- We have to implement the popup (based on approved mockup)
2- We need to implement the form to be included into each popups (3) and validate proper data
3- we need complete the logic for cookies's status.
4- Cross-devise testing for those popups.

This way not allow that you update the content, we need set a field in data base or think how can do this if you want.  |

I look forward to your feedback. THANKS, Alan

9 hours seems reasonable for implementation and testing of this. There is a bit of logic/validation involved as well, and setting this up is definitely more involved than implementing a plugin and walking away.

          Hi Alan

Bear in mind this is me coming in with no prior knowledge of you, your company or your developers - so its worth taking my comment with a pinch of salt.

With that said, I think 9 hours does sound reasonable for all parties.  I'm struggling to think of a WordPress plugin that allows you to accomplish what you're trying to achieve (which also makes good business sense btw). I can think of popup plugins, but I'm not sure if there are any that allow you to alter the popup itself based on historical sessions, nor see which popup someone eventually saw and "converted" (filled in the form) on, or indeed send information to you via a form.

Getting all of things into place and then reliably testing it - I think 9 hours billed is a good estimate (based on my coding experience, albeit by no means expert, and my 'client' experience). What's more, working with a developer you're happy with and trust, one that understands your goals and your business, is worth its weight in gold I can assure you. Having a clear spec before you begin means you'll get a bespoke solution, which will always be better than a ready-made plugin anyway.

I think it's a smart idea and one that is worth doing right - so I'd definitely go with the developer and I think the quote sounds reasonable.  But as I say, that's coming from an outsider.

          I hope this helps.
