You would gain a lot of their direct traffic as well depended on how public it is that they have gone out of business. Remember that you would inherit their negative attributes just as much as you would their positive. You really want to look at their link profile prior to buying a domain that is frankly not very strong.
You could run into problems like penalties that you were unaware of because these guys built a bad back link profile.
check out a tool called removeem.com theirs other ways to do analysis on back links, but honestly if you send me the domain I can tell you a pretty quickly if it is bunch of spammy links or if they have some real jewels in their.
Here is an article you cannot see the video unless you subscribe however you can read the transcribed text below it.
Google Webmaster Tools (if you access to the domain)
Bing Webmaster Tools, Ahrefs, Majestic SEO and Moz’s Open Site Explorer use Moz To do the audit. In theory you can use just one of the two other tools either Ahrefs, Majestic SEO in addition to Moz’s Open Site Explorer you can try Monitor Backlinks too.

http://moz.com/community/q/what-is-the-facilities-provide-open-site-explorer-and-a-href-tool
http://moz.com/blog/january-mozscape-index-is-live
This company monitor backlinks is very inexpensive prices and a free 30 day trial I have never used them so I cannot vouch for them I can tell you used the other 3 having the other three they are a solid choice
https://blog.monitorbacklinks.com/seo/ahrefs-vs-majestic-vs-moz-compared-to-monitor-backlinks/
I think it is critical to use Moz open site Explorer in addition to using one of the two tools above.
My reason for this is every one of those tools is unique even though they are doing a very similar job.
Moz has attributes that are different and very worthwhile compared to the other two while the other two have other attributes that are different and very worthwhile.
I use all 3 however depending on what you want to spend to sp6 you may want to pick Moz OSE (something you already have access to)
- Moz will not follow a “no follow” link, or a 403 error.

Depending upon their link profile and how relevant their current pages that have links are to your existing pages or pages that you build.
It could help you gain more authority.
Rather it is worth spending X amount of time and Y amount of money doing is impossible to say without seeing the link profile and cost of the domain.
You would also have to purchase the domain at the right price something with a domain authority of under 20 is not worth very much in my opinion.
I hope that is helpful if you want to send me the URLs privately through private message or post them here I can give you a much better idea of whether not be worth it.

Hi Thomas,
the domain I am looking to get is;
goo.gl/8BI72Zwhile I agree with authority below 20 is not much but in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king, our main site has authority of 21 which still brings quite some visitors (+ 600 a day) because we are targeting an niche market so I think google puts us up in the ranking for most keywords because there is also a lack of an better alternative.
in terms of the authority this domain is almost the same as our own main site, only difference is that this site has been offline for 5 months now, so not sure of the following;
- if worth anything after being dead for so long
- if any juice get's passed on
-
can try that short link again I get
if worth anything after being dead for so long
Yes only the links
- if any juice get's passed
Yes it will pass link juice if used
-
Hi Thomas,
I send you also private message, the domain is indeed offline. there is nothing on it anymore.
when you use siteexplorer for the domain, you will see the authority and details.

You would get link juice because they have not killed all the links what you want to care more about is the amount of domains pointing at your site then just pure links. These guys have a lot of dirty links I would not do it based on what I have seen.
Compare to your back link profile then look at the links at the bottom that I have put the URL the domains are the ones that really matter they have 400+ follow the links but only 30 domains
You could kill the pages that have the bad links pointing to them by doing a 410 that tells Google it is dead. But you could inherit some nasty stuff. Use this list to prospect from the sites you like on here if you like any of them.
When you redirect the domain to yours you are essentially taking on everything that was not good about them as well as everything that is good they have some really bad stuff like
&
http://goeielinkjes.expertpagina.nl/
Almost everything is a form, directory or very spamming link index
There are a couple of good URLs in there if you are in the RC car business (I love RC cars)
However you should compare this to your back link profile it would be very easy in my opinion to simply get these links for your business without importing their pretty spammy link profile.
I am not saying everything on hear is junk you have to look at these domains and tell me if any of them mean anything to you are they relevant to your website?
Sincerely,
Thomas

I would go with your own feeling if you feel that these sites are places you would like to have your site linked from then check out each domain only four of them have any real power. Also it would be very important to see your link profile two. Please read some of the articles above about prospecting via competitors link profiles.
If you tell me that any of these things are the best places that people go to to find information about what your business does then were talking about something other than junk but I look at it and see a very shoddy link profile.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks again once more for that comprehensive answer, the domainlist in the CSV are all RC car related, either it's an directory or forum or blog.
In Netherlands directories still have allot of value for some reason. our own backlinkbuilding is also build on forum backlinks and directory backlinks.
keep in mind these dutch directories are quite hard to get on to most of them. They are all manually moderated and most of them have to accept you manually and advertisement link are not done with most of the quality directories here.
I think I have to cross check with our own domain and see what actual value the domain will have net. It's no use getting the domain if from the 20 linking domains, already 15 link to our website. then we would be getting this domain for just couple of backlinks which we could get organically.
-
I am happy I could be of help.
I think you hit the nail on the head that is exactly what you should do is check what you have currently and cross-reference then decide. Obviously if you are to have links from these domains then it is not worth buying.
Of course, as you said if these are hard to get into and monitored and you do not have them then it could be a very wise move.
Let me know what you turn up.
All best,
Tom

Hi Thomas,
I did a crosscheck and from the total 20 linking domains, I have 2 of them already in our own back links, so 18 of them would be new which will be 301 to our own domain. from this 18, 13 are above Domain Authority 23.
We ourself have only 28 root domains linking, in theory, even if 50% of the valuable 13 links passes some juice to our site, would it not increase the overall ranking?

Hi Sami,
Yes they should increase your domain authority. Rather not that increases your rankings is based on Google however most of the time it is never going to hurt them is their irrelevant or bad links. You have confirmed they are valuable so I would imagine that they will help you.
Nice job doing a cross check what I would do now is look at whether or not this domain is worth the price of their charging.
I have no idea what price is, but if I would go ahead and acquire it if it is the right price and those are the URLs that are hard to get that you are currently trying to into.
All the best,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I went ahead and made the purchase, in my opinion not expensive but with domains you know... it's worth whatever you are willing to pay for it.
thanks again for your help and guidance to check out those great links!
