      Alo everyone!

The site I'm working on has had a homepage that essentially used the footer as the main form of navigation on the site and the PA of each of those pages reflects that. I'm helping them re-organize the site (I'm still a noob though), and was curious for some input on this particular situation.

Some of the most authoritative pages are:

      1. www.charged.fm/privacy - PA 29

      2. www.charged.fm/terms - PA 29

My question: Is this just a consequence of previous mistakes that we live with, or is there something involving 301's and creation of new pages that could help us utilize the link juice on these pages. Or should we come up with ways to internally link to 'money' pages from these pages instead?

      Thanks for any input,

      Luke

You can't really 301 without it looking like a mess so unfortunately you'd have to live with it a bit. You could try linking to your internal pages from there but I would hope part of your normal navigation would do that for you.

Now Google does tend to give a bit more trust to things at the top of the page so you could try some navigation at the top to help spread some link juice but really that's not going to give you a massive amount of movement.

Someone else might have some better input than me but depends on how much you want to compromise.

        Good luck.

I wouldn't go about restructuring the whole site. Keep in mind page authority is a part of having visits and links coming to that page. Since they are both important pages of the site (terms and privacy) chances are you link to those pages more than any other, thus giving them a higher PA.

You could link off of those pages to other internal pages, or create another menu at the top that points to them. In this situation a 301 is not required, as you wouldn't gain any benefit from redirecting them. For example: redirecting a privacy page to another page you want to rank would most likely have the adverse effect of what you are trying to accomplish since the pages are not relevant to one another.

Google likes simple, keep it simple. You can still add the links at the top without doing any redirects. I would expand where you are at now with new content and pages, rather than get rid of or redirect what is already working for you.

            Hey David,

Thanks for the input, that's the answer I was looking for. We are actually working on a more robust and user-friendly top navigation. I'm hoping that the new structure of the site will help spread the link juice around and make us more relevant for our important keywords.

I'll leave the footer links alone and work on better structure and internal linking for now.
