I need to remove around 800 bad links, probably about 500 domains as a very rough estimate.  These were built by a previous link building company.  Here some example domains:

      http://globalweddingblog.com
      http://theweddinginsider.net
      http://www.couturefashionissues.com
      http://www.topfashionlabels.com
      http://weddingworldnews.com
      http://www.savingsdistrict.com
      http://bestfemalesblog.com
      http://mylatestfashion.com
      http://lastfashion.net
      http://womansonlineblog.org

I have already tried emailing a hundred or so with a manual link request - with zero outcome.  Hardly surprising when you consider the types of sites they are.  I've had a quote for a link removal service, but I'm not sure if it's wise to pay someone to do this work - not sure what resources/tools they would have above and beyond what I can access and there could be increased risk.

      Any advice?

If you know the sites you can do it your self and save your self some cash. How to are here -

        https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2648487?hl=en

In short you need to Disavow them and you need to help load a list to your webmaster tools of the sites you want to be removed along with steps you have taken to try to remove them.

Tools you can get away with for no cost are Moz open site explore / plugin and webmaster tools

        Hope this helps.

Take the list of **blog networks **and disavow them. They are not replying because the owners don't give a ****

Nice way of sorting through blog networks is downloading the link data, check each homepage for external links, any with high outbound links on the homepage are more likely to be blog networks.

Basically, load the list of domains into scrapebox, use OBL checker plugin. Now you can see which ones have high OBL on homepage.

The fact you already know the toxic links and have link building experience suggests you're more than equipped to do it yourself. As already suggested, the best way is to use Google Merchant Centre Disavow - and this is exactly what a link removal company would do.

I would consider a month trial/paid of Open Site Explorer / Majestic to get all the links, though Webmaster tools also provides a free sample download of links too.

I'm sure it goes without saying but just make doubly sure that these links are toxic before you disavow them. If a link removal company slipped up and did this then there's a risk of them causing harm so there are advantages to you doing it yourself if you know what you're doing.

Although I agree with what some of the others have said, it's not enough to just disavow all links. Google want to see that you have actually tried to remove the links. So make sure you keep record of the sites you tried to contact as proof that you have tried. Google want to make this is hard for you, otherwise there is no incentive to just do the same again. Don't be surprised if you need to try upwards of 5 reinclusion requests.

Some good resources on the process are here:

              Good luck

Thanks Craig, I agree with you that I need to try and get these dodgy links removed rather than going for the more straight forward disavow option.  I've now identified the links, actually 3k URLs but much less domains.

Can you recommend any programs that will obtain contact info and manage the emailing process?  I have signed up for a trial with Rmoov and tried to obtain contain info but it's not really worked.

Oh, it's an algorithmic penalty, not a manual penalty, sorry if I wasn't clear,

Sorry for the slow reply on this, Rmoov is good and there's a bunch of others in the blog post that you might find useful:
