Loads of quality content but not getting links!! What should I do?
-
Hi I have been working hard and creating valuable content for 2 years now, we create a weekly news letter with around 10 articles and all our customers love it. But still we are unable to get links to our sites.
There are no active bloggers or sites for our industry and content is highly technical and scientific.
My competitors have thin content with bad links and they still rank better than us............. Please help me by answering the questions below -
Should we start submissions to directories?
If yes which directories should we submit to?
What else can we do to build links?
-
The struggle is real!! We have clients and internal projects that get outranked by competitors with the same, thin content and unnatural link profiles. Hopefully Google will get this nonsense addressed. But we can't hold our breath waiting around for that to happen...
-
I would certainly recommend submitting to relevant directories.

You can run an OSE link profile report on competitor sites to find relevant directory/link opportunities.
Question:
The content you are creating now, are you sharing it on your social platforms in relevant groups/communities?
Also, are you creating any infographic content? We've found this to be a very effective approach to build links from relevant sources.

I would question if my content is of high enough quality or of the right type to trigger sharing.

(1) Profile your intended audience to make sure you're addressing their information want and needs and sharing it in the right places.
(2) Consider just asking them - set up a survey.
(3) Include calls to action that specifically ask visitors to bookmark, link to and share your content.
(4) Consider syndication with canonical tagging - if nothing else, it has the potential to drive more traffic and time on site which can help your rankings.
(5) Are you using the right medium? Perhaps your (profiled) audience prefers short how-to videos or screen-casts? (Think of Whiteboard Friday.)
(6) Are you using hashtags and reaching out to the few bloggers that do exist and publish in your industry?
-
HI, I also think about this frequently, but the content has helped me get 10,000 blog subscribers and lots of appreciation from existing clients in the real world. Maybe i am not reaching any one with their own blogs and websites that can be easily updated.
-
All good points,
I am not using canonical taging syndication and hashtags, don't know how to do that, please do elaborate.
-
How should i find these directories?
We are creating posts, autoresponder series, ebooks, videos, webinars, podcasts, quiz, glossaries...... and shareing them on social media, most of our social traffic comes from linkedin
I did create on infographic but no links from that also!
