Can anyone explain the cause of having root domain metrics much smaller than subdomain metrics?

Hi!! I'm comparing OSE metrics for a site named like www.mydomain.com and have the following results:

• Subdomain MozTrust 5.65 (that is www.mydomain.com subdomain)

• Root domain MozTrust 0.82 (that is mydomain.com domain)

On the other hand one of my competitor have:

• Subdomain MozTrust 3.68 (that is www.otherdomain.com subdomain)

• Root domain MozTrust 3.67 (that is otherdomain.com domain)

Both websites' root domains point to the www subdomain. So how come in my domain theres is such a huge difference between these metrics and on the competitor's site both values are very similar?

I'd greatly appreciate any comment on this.
