New google serps page design
-
hi
i know title length displayed is now based on pixels rather than character but still thought safe to have titles up to 70 characters long before they are truncated
i see that on the new G serps designed pages titles that were showing in full on old design (without truncation) are now being truncated. As in same title shows fine (displays in full) on old design serps but truncated on new designed page
Anyone else notice this ?
Cheers
Dan

We've also noticed that we get the "..." even though we're at 66 chars.
Another thing we've noticed (and this may not be due to the update) is that Google will rewrite our
to put the brand name in the front. For example:

Keyword Phrase 1 - Keyword Phrase 2 - Brand

Gets rewritten to:

Brand: Keyword Phrase 1 - Keyword Phrase 2

interesting stuff Andrew, truncating at 66 characters, that seriously reducing title tag real estate!!
They have been re-writing titles for a while now so agreed nothing to do with recent serp page design update

I just played around with it. Depending on how much of the title is bolded (if the query keywords were in our title), our title would continue to get truncated at 61 characters.

Guys you should check out Dr Pete's post which Moz recently published today. The study actually outlines that the Title get's truncated on average after 50 characters; and with titles with full caps 44 characters.

I guess Google at the end of the day is trying to get users to write more meaningful titles, and the SERP redesign is just a step in the process.
