        Hi,

I definitely agree with you that you should never sink to that level and should rather always build great content instead. However nowadays it's harder to say if these backlinks really put them in front of your competitors as they could already be disavowed by them. I think in this case you could argue that these links are not disavowed. You could report the links to Google so they can have a look at it.

          Hello,

I can understand your feeling at moment! In last few months, SERPs are shocking. Have a look at a case study:

          • updatedseo.info/what-a-shame-penguin-2/

I was shocked when I was doing this research work!

Still, I never recommend you to do such type of stuff because website doing this going to be tanked shortly!

          • Add more content to your website. Content is king. Add blog post on daily basis if you can. Resolve problems of your community with your posts and I assure you that you will start finding traffic on your website
          • Spread the word on Social Media especially Google Plus. Get Google Plus Shares, Make Google Plus Local Page, get Authorship if feasible
          • Be local and specific in getting links!
          • Do some guest posts (Plz non anchor keywords)

I hope , this will help!

          Regards

            Hi,

Following up on Martijin's reply, you should definitely not sink to that level and get spammy links to your site.  However, did you check whether your competitors also have other back links from authoritative sites?  They might have gotten a few spammy links but they could have also gotten a lot of quality back links and did other optimization efforts to get them rank better than you.

The few spammy link doesn't really explain much why they rank better.  Are they optimizing on-page better?  Are they getting more social mention?  More and better quality back links? There are so much more to ranking.

            Don't feel frustrated now 🙂

                Hi.

You said, "Plz non anchor keywords"...

Google warns against "large scale" guest posts with anchor keywords.  Aren't anchor keywords still a good SEO practice, as long as they are natural, and not "large scale"?

                Thanks.

Anchor keywords are never natural. The only reason you link to the Adobe Reader page is because you would like people to help read their PDFs. That's why it's one of the most linked to pages. It would be weird if everybody would start linking to their Photoshop page as you could also read PDFs with Photoshop and it costs hundreds of dollars.
