I keep seeing this new style of infinite scroll and I absolutely love it, but I have no idea what it's called or how to implement it.
For an example of it you can view the following:

      http://qz.com/

      http://www.tomshardware.com/news/toshiba-ocz-ssd-acquisition-bankruptcy,25824.html

Simply scroll down and see as the URL changes and a new page is loaded right within the page you are on. It's seamless and will really help increase the amount of pageviews we get.

I have a couple of questions in regards to it.

      1. How the hell do you do it? Is there a Wordpress plugin that can add this functionality

      2. Can I add it to my category pages + single pages.

      3. Google Adsense and related networks have a policy of only 3 ads per page. As you scroll down the Tom's Hardware page above, you will notice it constantly loads new ads. Is this because the user has a Adsense premium account and can load unlimited, or is it possible to load them as it is technically a different page according to the URL.

I have also asked this question over at WPMU Dev incase there are some people there that know.

      Thanks a lot,
      Ash

        Hi Ash,

I can't comment on 1 and 2 as the issue there is that it needs to work with your current WP theme and that is not guaranteed with the WP theme you might be using. However quickly searching on Google there are a couple of plugins providing the infinity scroll. It's not the most basic thing to implement on your site but it is true that it will increase the number of pageviews.

Coming back on your third question, as you just load the new page based on the scroll and also change the URL you're actually on a new page. So I think in that case you're allowed to refresh the ads. That's not something you should do though to often. But in the case of infinity scroll I think it's allowed.

          Hi Martijn.

Yeh I have seen a lot of plugins but they all seem to be the post loading ones rather than actually loading the article and being capable of changing the URL you are on. As in, you'd just stay on the page you are on, and new content will be loaded on that page.

Do you guys plan to use Infinite Scroll at TNW? I notice you load a few articles but then still have the next page element added. You guys still get a large proportion of traffic from search according to some sites which is surprising as you just hit the million mark on twitter etc.

          Ash

            Hi Ashley,

It probably won't be that much work to also change the URL as most of the work is already done with Javascript, but if you're not a coder it can be hard ;-).

We might launch something like infinite scroll in the upcoming weeks for TNW. It's still work in progress as in our case it involves a lot of exceptions we have to take care off first.

              Hi Ashley,

"Infinite scroll" is using a technique with JQuery. Many people confuse the concept of "infinite scroll" with parallax scrolling. Just to be clarify. Parallax scrolling and infinite scroll are not the same thing.

Here is a great article on how to use Jquery and SEO it at the same. The article mentions parallax scrolling because "parallax scrolling" is often confused with infinite scroll

              http://www.iprospect.co.uk/blog/featured/parallax-scrolling-and-seo-how-to-use-jquery-to-seo-your-website.html

I cannot answer your Adsense question. Good luck and hope this helps

              Carla

Thanks guys, very interesting stuff and something we expect to see a lot more of throughout 2014, and perhaps implemented on SearchBuzz at a later date.

                Regards
