A client and I are debating between two taglines, which both contain an important keyword phrase. This tagline will exist as the H1 on the homepage, as well as in the header with the logo on internal and landing pages. The tagline structure is either:

      1. [keyword phrase] Solutions

      or

      1. Single Source [keyword phrase]

Can anyone weigh in on which is better?

      Thanks much!!

        Hi Julian

I would use whichever tagline reads and sounds the best for your website visitors.

Whilst the proximity of keywords does have an impact on the SEO value of those words in page Title tags, I don't think proximity makes a difference in H1 or other heading tags. If it does, the impact is likely to be negligible. Go with what works for your brand and your target market.

By optimising the content of your pages for people first you will create more relevant and therefore more important content for search engines.

Thanks, Peter. That's pretty much what we were thinking: we always err on the side of the reader, and it seemed in a short 4-5 word H1 tag there would be little difference in relevance when the keyword comprises 50% of the H1.

          Really appreciate your quick reply.

          • Hi! I'm wondering whether for keyword SEO - a url should be www.salshoes.com/shoes/mens/day-wear (so with a few parent categories) or www.salshoes.com/shoes-mens-day-wear is ok for on page optimization?
