DudaMobile Hosting Problem
-
Hi Everyone,
We used DudaMobile to create our mobile site, but there hosting is too slow. When I told them, we want to switch, they said we couldn't. I have not got any specifics from them yet, other than, "all our mobile sites are hosted by us." Is this even possible?
I was under the impression that you could switch hosting companies freely. Sure, you might have to pay off the rest of your contract or something, but they gave me the impression it was impossible, not expensive. Does anyone have any experience with this or them?
Thanks,
Ruben

Whilst I have never used them, it looks like they are selling a service, not hosting. It therefore stands to reason that if you cancel their service you lose your mobile site.
Had a look for their terms and conditions and they do not mention anything about hosting, but refer to services:
"We provide various mobile website solutions for our customers, including but not limited to: our Site, mobile website conversion, mobile website creation, and mobile advertising solutions (collectively, the “Services”).. You may use the Services for your personal and business use or for internal business purpose in the organization that you represent, as long as you are in compliance with all provisions of this Agreement."
It is a little unclear, but it is easy to argue it in their favor based on that wording. Sucks for you though. But hey, you own the domain, so speak to a web developer before you cancel so they can see what you have and get you a new mobile site up an running. Or, get them to make you a responsive web design which I personally think are better anyway.

Hi,
We have had direct services through them and it is exactly what they are stating, once you cancel the "service" you are essentially cancelling your mobile site. If they didn't have control over your website on their servers then they would be out of business because 1,000's of businesses would just go to them, sign up for the service, create their mobile site in 10 minutes, get it launched, then cancel service and walk away with a $10 custom mobile site.
To them, they are protecting their software and ensuring long-time, recurring paying customers, so it is like any other software service out there. They also do not sell the mobile site which their software creates for you as an exclusive buy-out either.
We really liked what they could do, but in the long term view for our clients, we decided to stay away and build individual mobile sites which our clients could own 100% of the code and host anywhere they want.
Hope this was helpful! - Patrick

Thank you both for the help, and Patrick that was a very insightful comment. Thanks for showing me their side. It actually makes perfect sense (albeit sadly for me).
