CDN image links passing SEO benefit?
-
We used a CDN to host all of the images on our site, and the paths are such:
http://cdn.onedirection.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/harry-styles-tongue5.jpgFrequently we get a lot of other websites using our images, which we're fine with, but I would like to know if we get any SEO value from these image links? Interestingly they do appear in the "Just Discovered" section of OSE.
Cheers,
Chris.

I cant see any SEO benefit, if the images were on your own domain, then there might be.
this is my opinion, I believe there is a pagerank for images, at least that google keeps some sort of record of whos linking to what image. not only are these people not linking to your domain rather to the CDN domain, you are linking to the CDN domain also. I would rather host the images myself and not be linking out and have others linking to me.
I host at Microsoft Azure, if you host in the cloud there is no advantage to having a cdn as you already have good bandwidth.

Thanks for your reply Alan.
Do you have any idea why Moz would list them as incoming links in OSE?

no, I wold have thought they were outgoing links

Hey Chris,
If your domain is onedirection.net and people are linking to your images on cdn.onedirection.net you are seeing some benefit, just not as much as if they were on onedirection.net root domain. If that's the case that's why they are coming up in your Just Discovered links.
If however cdn.onedirection.net is your CDN completely irrespective of your domain and your site is on another domain like justinbieber.com then nope you won't get any link equity from that.
