Cross domain shared/duplicate content
-
Hi,
I am working on two websites which share some of the same content and we can't use 301s to solve the problem; would you recommend using canonical tags?
Thanks!

Yes. If you cannot use a 301 or if it does not make sense to use a 301, then using the canonical tag to show that the page is a copy of another page would be your best route.

Hope this helps.

I placed rel=canonical on some content that is shared by two websites. Now when I go into webmaster tools and look at backlinks. The pages on the site that have rel=canonical are displayed as backlinks on the site with the original copy.
I am really happy with how this is working.
