A Mozzer of the Month Award?

Hi Mozzers,

Just a quick thought...I've been a member of the Moz community for a while now and have asked and answered many questions. The time that so many people spend to help others in the community is very honourable and think they deserve a mention! I was wondering whether it would be possible/ deem it a good idea to have a "Mozzer of the Month" award for someone who really has helped a fellow Mozzer out? There could be a section where you nominate someone for the award and think it'll be quite a nice way of saying thanks when someone has really helped you out of a tricky situation.

Anyway, just a thought, what do you all think?

There are perks for helping out in the moz Q&A

If i remember correctly, when you reach 500 moz points, one of the links in your author page becomes a do-follow and if you get i think 500 moz points in a single month then you get a free month of Moz pro.

Well, They did send me a postcard with a hand drawn horse on it and in 11 more points I believe I get a t-shirt. I'd rather get those things than be a "Mozzer of the Month". Plus, with so many great people around here and great answers given, I don't think it would be easy to choose just one person  who was most helpful over a course of 30 odd days.

I didn't get a hand drawn horse. I did get the t-shirt tho (it's blue with Moz on it). Ironically, they had a blank postcard inside with a note on the receipt to write a message on the postcard (the t-shirt company drop ships for them). I got a kick out of that.

If you hit 200 points in a month (you'd probably have to have a promoted YouMoz to get that high) you get a free month of pro. And there's more rewards at 2k and 5k points. Better rewards in my book than some arbitrary Moz of the Month thing.

No, no. I don't hate it. I just like getting random stuff instead of being singled out for any help I give. And I think it would be awkward to implement. Does it get based off of points from the Q&A alone? What if someone has capped their Thumbs Up points for the month but has received tons of them, do we count all thumbs ups or only the ones that added points? Same for having comments marked Good Answer. Do we take into account how quickly they answered it, how thoroughly they answered it, how much of an impact it had on the person helped... do we all just vote for people at the end of the month?

I know... I over think things. Don't mind me, I'll be in the corner with my cup of coffee.

Yeah, I don't hate your idea, I just think they have a better one in place already. Plus it would probably add some drama to the forum. I've seen similar things happen elsewhere. It sounds like Mike has as well.

I love the idea! What it says to me is that people want to see who is active in the community and such. I'm really glad you bring this up because we're trying to come up with ways to do this. While a "Mozzer of the month" may not specifically work, the idea behind it is fabulous. And if there's interest in something like this, we'll definitely start working through some ideas and get more feedback about it from the community!

Actually, when you get 200 MozPoints the top link in your profile becomes followed, and if you get only 200 MozPoints in a single month you get a free month of PRO. Once you hit 1000 points you get a T-shirt, at 2000 you get a fun package.

We also try to send thank you cards and random fun things when someone has been participating a ton as well.
