Are Acxiom, Localeze, and Infogroup the main players when it comes to syndicating local citations?  When you add your information to them, how long does it normally take to start showing up in all the other directories?

Also, are there any other major players like Acxiom, Localeze, and Infogroup you'd suggest submitting a business to?

Acxiom, Localeze, and Infogroup are great. You can also use: https://getlisted.org and yext.com to find more listings. just make sure your NAP (Name Adress Phone)  are consistant.

Also make sure you only list your business in relevant directories or do not post.

Lastly you can use a list of directories from SEOmoz: http://www.seomoz.org/directories

I really like Yext, but it is because I am lazy and I don't mind paying the $499 a year.  It gives a central dashboard where you control almost 50 different directory listings in real time.  Super easy.  They are adding Bing in the next couple months but they don't work with Google Places (annoying).

Yes, those are the big 3 data aggregators.  They are not syndicators per say.  Their models are different.  Instead, they provide/ sell their data to other sites.  There are some other minor ones that provide this type of data, such as Factual.

It can take a while for your data to propagate beyond these sites.  It depends on how often the various sites that pull their data update their own lists.

These alone are not the answer.  You need to make sure that your data is accurate in these (so that your updates on other sites don't get reverted back).  Once you have that, you need to move to the other types of sites:

            • Search portals (Google+ Local, Bing Places for Business, Yahoo Local)
            • Review sites like Yelp
            • Business directories and Internet yellow page type sites
            • Social sites like Facebook and Foursquare
            • Maps sites like Mapquest
            • Hyperlocal and Niche specific directories

There are listing services like UBL and Yext that charge you to do a lot of this.  UBL does get your info to Acxiom and Infogroup, but not Localeze.  You need to do Localeze yourself.  Yext gets the listings out fast to individual sites, but does not create accounts for you, so if you need to respond to a review, etc. you will need to go in and claim your listing and setup your account yourself (even if Yelp is managing the data to that site).

              Hi Chase,

Great questions. I highly recommend that you study GetListed.org's Local Search Ecosystem infographic to start getting a handle on the big players and the way in which data feeds from one source to another. It's a truly awesome illustration of how this all works:
