Modify URL, how to re-index
-
hello,
I have just modified URL, do I need to re-submit sitemap or something else to search engines?
-
- Update your sitemap (if it doesn't automatically update).
- Do 301 redirect from old URL to new version
- Ping the new URL
-
Thank Tim,
Are there any tools I should you to ping the new URL? Can you give me advice?

Perfect advice. Also, http://www.bulkping.com/ works wonders. So does putting the new (fixed) link on Google Plus.

If you have just modified the URLs the idea is to quickly follow the process below!
- Redirect all old URLs to the new ones and make sure that you are redirecting to the relevant pages that does not hurt user experience.
- Update your xml sitemap accordingly!
- Submit the new xml sitemap to Google Webmaster Tool
Probably by this Google will get a signal about the new data on your website and it will crawl the new data accordingly! As it take time for Google to crawl, index and rank new URLs it is important not to hurt the user experience... redirection (301) will help your users move to the new version of the URL!
Hope this helps!

Thank you!
But old pages still alive but they were removed from my sitemap. Should I use redirect 301?
Old URLs still alive because I code by php and use ID to link a content. eg:
- old URL: http://www.vietnamvisacorp.com/faqs/what-is-vietnam-visa-on-arrival--115.html still alive but it was removed from sitemap
- new URL: http://www.vietnamvisacorp.com/faqs/what-is-the-vietnam-visa-on-arrival---voa-to-vietnam--115.html, I have just replaced the old URL by new URL on my website as well as on my sitemap
