301 Redirects (non-www)

Hi Everyone
I've just noticed that if I paste one of my website url's less the www. in to the address bar it always redirects me back to the home page. Is this a bad for SEO? and does Google see this in a bad way?
I've looked at a lot of other sites and the non www always redirects you the the same page with the www. not the home page.
see my example below:
polesandblinds.com/curtain-poles/metal-curtain-poles/chrome-stainless-steel-silver-nickel/

Yeah, that's not good. You have your redirect set up improperly in your .htaccess file? Take a look at this info to figure out what you may need to adjust.

Yes, It's not good for SEO. If you have IIS server then follow these instructions for canonical problem:
http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/04/20/tip-trick-fix-common-seo-problems-using-the-url-rewrite-extension.aspx This is only applicable for IIS7 or later server version.

Thanks for the reply, as my site has taken a drop in the Search engine results I'm try to resolve any issues that could be contributing to that.
