Embedding an image from another site
-
I have developed some micro-sites for a client. The micro-sites are on their own root domain and are only associated, through links, with the client's main site. The client just added an infographic to their site and I want to embed it on the micro-sites. If I am going to embed the image on all the micro-sites that were developed do I need to use a rel canonical tag so it is not seen as duplicate content?

Yes, if you have a rel canonical in place on the original page where the inforgraphic was first published, this should take care of any potential duplicate content issues. I would just make sure too that the other pages where the infographic is to appear have unique titlas and meta descriptions.
Hope that helps!

If the image on the microsite points back to the original image would that take care of the duplicate content?

Yes, absolutely. Attribution is considered to be a very reputable way of linking.
