      Hello ,

I actually came here looking for help. I have always worked on old and aged websites, and they all have been huge success, may be because i really got familiar with those kind of websites. Now, i am working on a new long term project. Its a 8 months old website and i dont have a clue where do i start from. Its a technology website and i need to target traffic from britain. I have done whatever i could regarding Onpage SEO, but i simply have no idea where do i start from with link building. Like should i start buying some high PR backlinks or should i go slowly. Can anyone here guide me on that ?

Buying links can get you penalized. Don't do that.

Here is a great list of link building strategies if you don't know where to start:

          Hi there,

SEOMoz has a great article about link building for 2013. With all the changes that has been going on with Google, you may want to try and do proper SEO for the website, meaning no keyword stuffing and buying of links, as Takeshi Young had said.

The focus now on link building is providing "evergreen contents". These are valuable contents that people would want to share, repost and retweet. Examples of these are tutorials, know-hows.

Also, it is important to build a reputable and authoritative online presence. Social networks, groups and communities can help you with that.

          Hope that helps!

The link building/PR tactics provided by Takeshi Young are excellent as well as Agents of Value content marketing suggestions are both excellent.

I've been in your shoes before and it's certainly different developing something for the start vs. something in progress.

I'll offer a third and different perspective. In evaluating social media, analyze the most recent posts of competitor(s) and follow some of the users that might meet one or more of the "marketing personnas" you are trying to target (I try to create twitter lists with friendly names to organize these users). Begin to monitor their conversations and chime in when you can add value to the discussion. While monitoring, pay attention to the hashtags that these tweets include.

Hashtags are a GREAT WAY  to acuire new followers, conversations and potentially....customers.

This is one of many tactics and could similarly be utilized with Facebook, but not quite as easily. Don't want to be creapy.

Hope that is useful. Best of luck.

              Thanks for your reply Takeshi.

I was actually talking about link directories who are quite reputable, have high PRs and they sell lifetime links (like yahoo dir, botw). Should i consider them, like one or two good quality backlinks every month?

Yahoo and botw are ok links if you have the budget (depending on the category), but getting high authority links from relevant sites in your niche will have more impact, and often cost you less money.
