    Does anyone know how to successfully rank a Youtube video on Google Search?

      Hi,

      I have a number of products and videos i would like to make videos for.

      However i doubt that a lot of them will get searched for a lot on Youtube but there is high Google searches for them. Is there a way i can concentrate my efforts on performing SEO on a Youtube Video to get it ranked in Google?

      I want to also creat videos that will get searched on in Youtube but feel there is more searches for my products on Google Search.

        Hi Neil,

        YouTube is owned by Google which mean if you optimize your YouTube video (such as Title, Description, and all the other factors), if someone searches on Google, it is possible that your video will appear.

        Optimizing your YouTube video is very similar to Optimizing a website

        You will need to optimize your title with keywords and CTA to get more clicks/views.

        Optimize your video content so that it is imformative and exactly what your title reflects

        Optimize your description with keyword

        Optimize the video tag (Don't over do it)

        Build back links to your VIDEO like a website!

        Share your video on social media platforms like sharing articles.

        If your YouTube video is well optimized, it will be found via YouTube search and Google search.

          Tommy's advice is excellent. Just keep in mind that, while you might successfully rank your YouTube video in Google, that searchers who click through on the video will be taken to YouTube, not your website, to view the video. If the purpose of your videos is more for branding and exposure, then this might be fine. If the purpose of the videos is to bring more traffic to your site, this might not work so well. It all really depends on what your business goals are for your video content creation.

            Hi Tommy,

            Thank You for the advice and i am guessing that links have to be varied as per a website.

            I have fully optimised the videos as you have suggested but without anyone viewing them in Youtube i wasnt sure they would get ranked.

            I like the blog you sent me but that page did not work and i couldnt find the post on Youtube.

              @Neil, Number of views and amount of the video viewed, both are factors YouTube use to rank your video.  Similar to an optimized article you published, you will have to share it on Soical Media, on your website, communities and subscribers in order to get views.  In addition, if you have other videos, you should refer to other videos too.  Furthermore, like a website/article, it will take time.  Your video won't get ranked the moment you posted it.

              Whether it is video SEO or website SEO, it will take time and is an on-going process.

                Hey Neil,

                I just wanted to add that putting an accurate transcript next to the video is another way to get Google to crawl what's in the video, and this can be optimized for long/short tail terms if a script is written prior to filming.

                Also, along the same lines as what Dana was saying, you should think about what the purpose of your videos will be; conversion or brand awareness.  If you want to build links and increase traffic, put interesting, quirky videos on YouTube.  If you want to increase conversion rates, put product/service videos on your website.  You can also add Meta data to your video if they are self hosted, which will aid in getting rich snippets for your videos in SERPS.

                I know Phil Nottingham has an excellent video on Distilled that talks about this, maybe someone here at SEOMoz could link to that if it's available anywhere other than through DistilledU?
