Which domain should i set up a blog on?
-
I have a client who uses a .com for there website in Australia. Were now building an external blog which will be on a subdomain.
We recently discovered they also own the Australian version of there domain name.
Should we build there blog on:
Thanks

If the client's target audience is based in Australia, I would suggest redirecting the .com to the new domain. So the main website would be www.newdomain.com.au and the blog would be http://blog.newdomain.com.au.
Also, I'm not sure if this is an option, but I personally prefer putting the blog in a subdirectory versus a subdomain. In this case, www.newdomain.com.au/blog/ would be ideal.

I would almost certainly go with the former (use existing domain) as you'll have the benefits of the blog being hosted (as a subdomain) of an existing website which presumably is receiving search traffic and has some authority.
The only scenario in which I might consider using a new domain (with the country domain) is if the client's website is very Australia-specific (such as for an Australian city, tourism bureau, etc) and having it hosted on the country domain would assist with perception from the general public.

I am not going to comment on the .com vs. .com.au question because I don't know anything about the goals of your business.
However, the blog should be at currentdomain.com/blog or newdomain.com.au/blog (or some other folder name - probably not "blog" because that attracts robots who want to spam your comments)
If you place it in a folder then links to the blog will directly benefit your primary site, while if it is on a subdomain the benefit is fractional.

The ideal scenario would be to set the site up as a subfolder however they have a site which is based on shopify so we will be building a separate site/hosting on blog.domain.com.
Unless there's a way of using sub-folder that has different hosting to the main site?
