Noindex search result pages Add Classifieds site
-
Dear All,
-
Is it a good idea to noindex the search result pages of a classified site?
Taking into account that category pages are also search result pages, I would say it is not a good idea, but the whole information is in the sitemap, google can index individual listings (which are index, follow) anyway. What would you do? -
What kind of effects has in the indexing of the site, marking the search result pages as "search results" with schema.org microdata?
Many thanks for your help,
Best Regards,
Daniel

1. I think you should block the search result pages of your website because I do not see any reason why you should troubling search engine crawler indexing unnecessary pages. Changes are that search bot may miss out on important pages.
2. I do not think use of micro data is going to make any significant difference here. It will make it easier for search engine to understand what the page is all about.

Hi Sandip,
Thanks for your answer.
Could it be that, even if the crawler is not indexing the search result, is going to index the links that are in those pages? Attributes in this case: noindex, follow.
Then what at best would benefit me, is to index the first search result page, and noindex starting the second one. Indexing the first because it has the meta description, and title, and I want that people find my categories (which are search results).
So, crawler can index links in a noindex page, if it has the attritbute follow?
Thanks again,
Daniel

Usually classified sites have a lot of filters to narrow down, you should definitely no index them and also add those filtered pages to block list via robots.txt. You don't want google crawler to start going in loops and instead want to conserve it to top level pages which user search and would find valuable once they land on it.
