I work for a company that has www.widget.com. This is the site we do all our business under. Right now there is no linkbuilding so I would like to create a blog to start linkbuilding. We also own www.widget.info. Can I run the blog under .info and still get the credit on the .com or are they considered completely separate entities that have nothing to do with one another? The reason I would prefer it on the .info is it gives me complete control. By putting it on out .com I have to talk to the developers to install wordpress and mysql, when I would much rather just be able to do it on my own. Any ideas?

They are considered completely separate entities that have nothing to do with one another.

Ideally, widget.com/blog/ is the best place to run your blog.

Do you have any ideas for what I can do with the .info? It has some stuff on it right now, mostly just pamphlets of things we sell. Is there any other use for it?

Honestly, best thing you can do it replicate the content/page on your main site, 301 redirect and canonical (or just canonical).

main site probably has more authority, will gain more authority and if the goal is the rank the main site, you need to put as much (linkable) content on it as possible instead of splitting it into two sites. Plus, .info's are just worse =/

An widget.com/info/ with all the info based articles would be easiest to add while keeping the "info" related stuff separate.

            Cheers!

Honesty speaking, I am not getting what you mean to say here – “Right now there is no linkbuilding so I would like to create a blog to start linkbuilding.”

_Do you mean, you will develop a blog solely for the sake of doing 3 way link exchange? Please elaborate. Of you want to develop a blog and then post some great articles which will help you earn some natural links. The second one sounds a logical approach and of course doing guest blogging in others’ sites and get a link back would be another great effort to make your blog attain some sort of online visibility.

And of course, there is no point in launching another domain. This will not pass any value to your existing website. _

The blog is not just for linkbuilding, It will have articles for natural links, but will also be used as a way to communicate with current customers.

                • A lot of blogs use wordpress or blogspot, are these blogs still useful for SEO in terms of linkbuilding, or should they be avoided?
