Bounce Rates Impact on SEO?

What impact does bounce rate have on a websites rankings?
What is an ideal bounce rate percentage to shoot for?
What is the best way to reduce bounce rate on a site?
-
Normally, Search Engines cannot use such data directly because they don't have access to it! How would google know what bounce rate your have on your website?
Many marketers say that usage data like bounce rates, number of visists... will influence rankings in some way, but there is still no evidence for that.
Plus, an 80% bounce rate cannot always be a bad thing, imagine a user looking for an info, he finds your website, reads the page that answers his or her question, you have a 100% bounce rate but the user is satisfied, what's wrong with that?
A good way to reduce bounce rates on a website is to:
-
link to related content
-
have an easy to navigate website
-
engage the user by letting him comment
...
Hope that helps!

Hi Joel,
I have read that some where that Google doesn't use Google analytics data for ranking. Here is the Matt Cutt video on it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgBw9tbAQhU
And about ideal Bounce rate : Its totally depends on your niche. For example: SEO blog ( user engagement ) should have low bounce rate but in case of deals ( Click to claim to get the deal ) sites its better to have high bounce rate.
Don't use pop ups, Improve website design, focus on Navigation & Usability, Reduce website loading time, Use multimedia ( Video) for user engagement. There are many other depends on your niche.
Hope this help you out....

For one client site, I see in GA Organic Search Traffic results a lot of Bounce rate 100% and Avg Visit Duration as 0:00:00 what would this mean? GA is correctly installed (as far as I know)
