I haven't looked at the search volume or competitiveness of those particular phrases, but I'm curious - have you analyzed them? I'd be a bit leery of clients coming to you and giving you a list of keywords to rank for when they might not even have any search volume and/or are very competitive (just my experience that most clients aren't SEO-savvy and haven't done any actual keyword research, your client may be much more knowledgeable about SEO and know that those keywords are the ones they need help ranking for).  I would suggest analyzing all 10 of those phrases and then also doing keyword research to see if you can come up with other variations that you can target and start ranking for and actually start generating traffic for in the short term. My favorite tool for this situation would be LongTailPro - you can enter in all of these phrases and it automatically generates variations and automatically analyzes by search volume and competition.

(I'm not affiliated with LongTailPro at all, just think it's a great tool!)

It all depends on what you plan on doing to market them. What tactics are you using? To be honest you have some really hard terms on that list you probably will not rank on 1st page for years if ever.

To be honest we haven't decided on a plan of attack as of yet, doing some research into search volumes etc.

There is no reason why after a campaign covering Social & SEO that you can't start to rank for them. It will take time, but never say never - there are very few phrases I couldn't get to 1st page. Mind you, some I wouldn't even bother trying (Finance & Car insurance are a pain!). And yes, I do have some phrases under my belt that are single words, 1st place and high contention (20 million monthly searches) 🙂

Has the client been realistic about what they want and what they are willing to spend in terms of time and funds?

With regards a time frame, this depends on so many factors.

              Any more info?

              Andy

Like wise, we have successfully got 1st position with search terms for the diamond jubilee earlier this year.

As for fund nothing has been agreed, they are aiming for Feb next year.

                Thanks for your thoughts.

                Ant

Well, don't be afraid to take it offline as well for this kind of thing Ant. You know how much women love to look at wedding magazines - great way to get content via other routes other than search, and to get people searching for the company name.

Depending on what they are willing to spend, I bet you could have 1st page with inside of 6 months.

Without you explaining how you plan on gaining links nobody can tell you a time frame,

You can rank on wedding dress in 6 months on page 1?

If I am given the funds and time to do it - it is a much lower contention and search volume than others I have done in a similar time.

Talk to the client about important metrics.

Sales, Conversions, Conversion %, average order value, captured leads, etc.

If they are focused on rankings you are fighting a battle that doesn't guarantee their/your success. Those appear to be very difficult KWs and if you aren't already an established brand, I'd say you have a long road ahead to safely sit on the first page for any of those terms. Upon first glance at the website, it appears to be a very new domain.

I don't think it is setting realistic expectations for your client if you tell them you can get them on the 1st page for those terms by February of 2013. If you can do it, I would question if the techniques used are safe for long-term success in the SERPs.

Figure out what the website's unique selling point is. Create content that emphasizes it and also focuses on high converting long-tail KWs. Continue to work your way up to the head.

                          Good luck.

Personally....  for those exact keywords  I would decline this job because I probably will not live long enough... unless the client has an astronomical budget and I hire a lot of talent.

Hi there - you may like to advise your client to spend more money on a facebook campaign than SEO given the difficulty of the search terms - I have worked in eveningwear and it is amazing how women share fashion images - you may need to spend a bit to boost your posts in the beginning but then it becomes rather viral
