Header tags - big H1s after small H2s
-
Just spotted bigger H1s and small H2s on a website, in the newsroom. The smaller H2 = section heading (Newsroom), the larger H1 is a news headline. Might that cause me any search engine problems?

The size does not necessarily matter from an SEO point of view. If the H2 is being used when an H1 tag would be needed (i.e. the headline) then there will be issues but it does not seem the case in this scenario.
You shouldn't have a problem.

You will be fine. The importance of H1s and H2s for on-page optimization is debated. For what it's worth, I have a site with the same set-up. Small H2 above the Headline H1. The site performs just fine in the SERPs.

I mix up the order of my heading tags as well and have fabulous search engine rankings. I wouldn't worry. Heading tags may be a factor in ranking, but they're such a teeny piece of the pie.

Thanks for your useful feedback Dan, Anthony and Marisa - much appreciated
