Newspapers are mentioning our service without links
-
Hi All
Hope you are well.
I am getting mentioned in a few newspapers online and they will put a link to our website without the anchor tag.
Now I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, how/did you approach the author about getting a link back?
Any other suggestions on getting links from such places would be extremely valuable as well.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

Haven't experienced this myself, but the natural response is to send a mail to the author of the article where you ask politely if the author could add a link to the article. Pretty much all you can do.

Newspapers operate out of fear. They want to tell folks about things but they don't want them to leave the news site through a link.
Not linking out could be policy. Do they link out in other articles. If they do, then ask if they could help you that way.

Thanks for the answers guys, I have a much better understanding of how these newspapers work now. I shall do a little bit more research to see if they link out from other articles and approach the authors to see what they say

Jane Copland did a fantastic talk on 'Golden Links' at LinkLove London this year. Her advice in this situation, like Host1 suggested, is to just email and ask, what do you have to lose? As EGOL said, you could check if they ever link out, to see if you have a hope, if not, still ask!
