How hard is it to get people to take off links that point to your site that are on theirs?  I have about 4 sites that I would like my link OFF of their blogroll because I think I was hit by the penguin update because of that.  Do you know if there is anything you can do if they DON'T take it off?

        Hello Vincent,

Since your only wanting to remove a link of 4 different websites, it should not be hard.  You should just contact them and ask they them to remove it.

In an unlikely scenario, if they do not remove the links, there is nothing really you can do about it.  The only way would be to gain more high quality links which will build your authority and reputation.  Once you've gained some authoritative links, these will outweigh the 4 'bad quality' links and Google's algorithm will likely place less weight on the bad links.

          Hello VIncent,

You can simply email the webmaster to take down your link, I am sure most of them will honour your request.

Secondly and most importantly, how do you conclude that these are the only 4 links which has attracted penalty during penguin update? If you entire link profile is natural and good , you don't have to be worried about it, but in your case you need to check your entire link profile and do in-depth analysis.  IF you have 96 good quality links out of 100, 4 bad links are not going to impact you.

          Thanks,

          Dheeru
