Does Google penalize multiple websites on a single server?

I looked at this problem when I was at a different company that owned a number of subsidiaries, each of which had its own website, and nearly all of which were sharing the same web server.
Basically what I was able to determine is that if you are hosting a few hundred sites with essentially identical content, you have a problem. However, if the sites in question clearly contain different content and subject matter, then it shouldn't be an issue with Google.

If all of your sites are quality and about different subjects then there should be no problem with having them on same server. Lots of people do this.
However, if they are all about the same topic and have lots of incestuous links between them then I would not be surprised to see google having a problem with it.
It is hard to tell how anything will hit google these days.

Completely Relative to Usage...
If each one of these sites all has unique content - and not just a bunch of doorway domains with EMD's
Then there is probably no issue at all - BUT
If you are creating some kind of linking scheme - then this will not be as effective, and in this current climate could be looked at as a "network" and incur a "second look" from a human. (depending on its size)
Basically if you are doing it for any "manipulatory" purpose then it COULD be bad for all - but if this is just a bunch of sites relevant or irrelevant to eachother or sites needed for business purposes, there should be no issues.
Hope this Helps

If you have duplicate content across multiple web presences on the same server, then yes, you may have a problem. It's likely best to go to some effort to differentiate your content and make sure each site is unique.
