I know that free press release sites don't always do the best job at getting ones relates out there, but I had a thought. What if I were to submit the same release to say, ten free press release sites? Would that it at least give me ten backlinks from those sites alone? They'd be good backlinks since I'll be able to have the desired anchor text.

Is that just another version of article spinning, or is it a good strategy for getting the release out there as much as possible? I'd value any of your opinions.

        Hi Marisa,

Using different good press release site can be a good way to build some diverse links. I would recommend that you place different press release articles on each site, to minimise duplicate content issues.

Don’t release all the press releases in one go, spread them out to give a more natural growth in links. Also use different links and link texts, remembering that press release can create leads and opportunities.

If possible try and use either site which are related in subject matter or local, if local is important to the site. Also consider your target audience and what influences them.

        K

Press Releases are a much better traffic/clicks generating strategy than a purely SEO one. If you just do PR for the sake of links or SEO, the 'story' probably won't be compelling enough and will likely only get picked by scrapers and lower quality sites - still giving you lot of backlinks but hardly of any real SEO/ranking value, some even possibly detrimental to your link profile if yours is not an authority site - since lot of duplicate articles with exact anchors will be linking to you in a short span of time.

If I were you, I'd do not more than 1 press release a month and make sure that the story/content is 'press worthy'. Make sure you have content that you think others (your peers or audience) will like likely benefit and pick up to share. Of course, this is could be very difficult or easy depending on your industry and niche and how 'press friendly' it is. Another suggestion - go with quality PR distribution sites, not those $9.99 PR submission services

I've always been a little confused about press releases because If one of my releases was to get picked up and then posted to multiple sites, those sites would have duplicate content. Or what if I wanted to submit one release per two sites? Would either of those things hurt me? For example, if I have a backlink on three sites that have the exact same press release, isn't that similar in format to having spun articles? Does Google take note of that?

              Hi Marisa, Everyone,

Regarding your question - I'm personally interested to find out whether the page, which has been penalised by search engines due to a duplicate content, has a negative impact on the links that are displayed on this page or are these links simply ignored.

Hi Marisa, PR is a great tactic as you can get great number of links, so yes you are correct. In terms of duplication, I wouldn't be too concerned. Think of these sites as news sites. Most them contain duplicate content but rank highly due to their authority and overall brand reputation. I do see that they are trying to create unique content but to create 100% unique content on topical news is impossible. In my experience it would be better to target a few great paid PR directories with social media features (they tweeting the link of the PR which will give you exposure). Most paid pr directories have the ability to push their content in their networks. That means when they pick up the content, it will also include links to your website (if you have included this ofcourse). Publishing the same PR on multiple sites won't penalise you, however if it is a bad site Google will simply ignore it. Hope this helps, Vahe
