Mac or PC for SEO??!
-
I'm currently using a PC for SEO work however I'm think of changing to a Mac. Are the SEO tools, extensions etc pretty similar on the too systems? Is either system better for SEO work?

Hi Danielle,
I don't think you can go wrong with either. Plus most SEO tools are now web-based where you simply need a browser. I'm a bit biased to Macs because --- well I love them! They work great and no dreaded blue screen of death.

Tools like Google Adwords Desktop Editor come in both PC and Mac compatible forms too.

Hi Danielle
Hopefully you'll be pleased to know that it makes no difference whatsoever.
There are a few differences in some browser extensions, nothing that will impact the SEO of a website though.
As for tools, most good tools are paid tools (such as the SEOmoz Pro Tools) and as such, work on both a PC and Mac OS. So many are browser based rather than installs, they work on cross-platform browsers, or at least all the tools worth using do.
There are some good free tools (usually cut-down version of the paid ones) and all the tools work across both platforms anyway.
So deciding between a Mac or a PC ~ decide for reasons other than SEO, such as what else you'll be using it for like design work, gaming, accounting, even the look of it on a breakfast bar... Both are fantastic for differing reasons.
Regards
Simon

I am glad that we didn't get into one of those Mac vs PC battles here!

Too right, though is always amusing to see the passion displayed by both parties! Owning both, I shall remain neutral

PC. Sorry, but while there are plenty of tools that are online, every now and then you need something that runs client side and, inevitably, it will probably only run on Windows.

We all use Mac's at our office and occasionally run into a PC tool.
Our solution for misc PC only tools: Parallels

Another neutral here. I was actually in the same boat as you. I have used PC for so many years that it was hard to migrate completely. I now have both a Mac and a PC. The Mac is just more stable, as Nathan said, no Blue Screen of Deaths etc.

I say it's important to have both… I work primarily on Mac but also have a Windows XP PC next to me to ensure the sites run on all platforms.
I do use the Mac more because I prefer the OS and sharing files around the office is easier. As far as SEO it doesn't make a difference.

I came into this post assuming I'd see a Mac vs PC fight... happy to see it didn't go that way.
One tool I can think of that I think is PC only is Xenu linksleuth. Otherwise I've been able to find everything I need on the mac.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for you all your responses! I have to say it did stay very civilised which is great. Think I'll be going for a Mac as I've heard such good things about the system, been having so many blue screen issues with my PC!
Thanks
Danni
