First off, forget about any "certification" - that might be one of the most difficult things to justify in our industry.

As far as online seo training, seobook.com has a great forum and tools to consider as well.

There really isn't any type of SEO training in all honesty. I read a post some time ago that to be a great SEO one has to want to be better. Justin Briggs uses the term "hustle" alot, and he often talks about being motivated with his work and that is the source of his skill. You have to have the curiosity to learn and dig for the information. Visit SEOMoz daily and read the blog posts, watch the WBF's go on Google and do your own experiments and see how the search engine works and before you know it, you will begin to understand how it all works.
