Hello Mozzers! I am currently building a website, which basically contains information from different niches. Let's make it clear: My website is something like eHow. The idea is to write quality articles, written especially to give the searcher the right information, without any scam, product advertisement or etc. The incomes are from AdSense. Actually I got inspired for this website from the Google Panda update. So... my question is - would it be harder to rank with such a website(domain name) that contains different niches and keyword phrases? Lets change a lil bit the situation and show you an example - I am trying to rank with keyword "how to make nice cheezeburgers" with http://theanswer.org/how-to-make-nice-cheezeburgers/ . At the same time I am also trying to rank with "The best movies of all times" with http://theanswer.org/the-best-movies-of-all-times/ . Thank you, Ralchev 🙂

The answer is no if you make each page be about a different thing and you make a catalog page containing all you would actually benefit here is an example The catalog page contains The best movies of all times The best songs of all times The best wine of all times The page "The best movies of all times" would follow a the "Perfectly optimized page" example And since you have a page that contains the keywords a few times you would rank well for The best x of all times and all your pages will rank well as well as your catalog page. I can see you are from Bulgaria so you can contact me on fasscorp@gmail.com or 0894481844 for further support if you need it.

Okay, I got your point, but I don't want the content to be just like you said - a catalog for "the best x of all times". What if there is no catalog, but there is a category for Movies for example, consisting "Movies you should watch", "Movies with many awards" and such topics that are related to "Movies" and are at the same time interesting.

Its the same for "food", "health" and other niches.

Is it good for SEO and ranking?

Ryan Kent always has an awesome explanation for this type of scenario, so hopefully he drops in.

            Anyway,

As long as you have it organized properly you should be able to make an attempt at ranking any phrase you want (I say attempt since you still have to optimize after creating the site).

I've ready a couple of Ryan's posts about the reasons for using /folders or subdomains, but I can't seem to find them right now.

            Domain.com/Movies/Best-Movies-of-all-time

            Domain.com/training/Doggy-Pushups

Unfortunately, the answer is a giant "It Depends". There's nothing wrong with that structure or having pages like you've suggested, but you have to offer some unique value and you have to have the link profile to back it up. If you only have a few links and then spin out 1000s of pages of eHow-like content, you're not going to rank for most of it (regardless of your URL and site structure). You may even find that most of the pages aren't indexed at all.

If the content is "thin" (mostly pulled from other sources, too heavy on ads, etc.), you could even get hit with a Panda-related penalty. So, you really have to focus on the quality at first, and on build up links and authority to support it. Ideally, it's an organic growth process, and you're not going from zero to 10,000 overnight.

That's not to say it can't work - just that it's not only about how you structure the site. It's ok for one site to cover multiple topics, if it's well organized and has authority, but it's going to be hard to build authority for 100 topics all at the same time. You might have more success picking a niche or at least building up gradually.
