Linkscape Update, New PA and DA scores
-
Hi everyone! We had a Linkscape update go live this morning, along with new calculations of PA and DA. It's a broader crawl that isn't as deep (fewer junk/binary links, woohoo!) and includes more domains. There is likely to be more change in PA and DA than usual, so please check out these two blog posts with more information:

A question for those who are reading this:
Do most of you read the SEOmoz blog, or would you like updates like this posted to the Q&A section once or twice a month?

Personally, I read the blog, but I think posting here would be a good way to spark some discussion outside of the blog comment section, which tends to get really long really fast.

because of this new crawl my sites DA dropped from 45 to 37.
what could be the reason that this happening?

If I am understanding the blog posts linked above (and correct me if I am wrong here Keri) the newest update focused on more root domains rather than deeper URLs.
If your DA dropped then I would hypothesize that it's because you have less domain diversity and lots more links on deep pages from a fewer number of sites. Less of those deeper links were picked up in this update which likely resulted in the drop.
I saw the opposite effect. I have a lot of links from smaller root domains and after losing DA for three or four updates I gained 8 points in this update.
Again, it's important to remember that the DA number is for reference only and shouldn't be considered a KPI or success metric for your site.

Hey Berend van Bon,
The Back Burner has an interesting thought on the decrease in your DA. It's tough to say for sure why your DA has dropped - it could be due to the updated DA model or we might not have crawled as many sites linking to you. If the latter is the case, you would see a decrease in link count, thereby lowering your DA.
Most likely if you see a drop in your linking domains and/or URL counts, this was what caused your DA to decrease. If these metrics look about the same as last index, the drop would probably be due to the updated DA model.
I hope that helps, but let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Carin
