      Hi,,,

Okay we have 1 main site , a few years back we went down the road of sub domains and generated about 10.

They have page rank and age  but we wish to move them back to the main web site.

What is the correct or best way to achieve this.

1 copy all content to the main web site creating  dup pages and then use a redirects from the sub pages  to the new dup pages on the main domain...

      or

2 write new content on the main domain for the subdomain pages and redirect to the new content.

Problem with 2 is the amount of work involved...

Hi there, go for Option 1, though only copy over valuable content that you'd like to keep, a good opportunity to get rid of any invaluable content, if there is any.

Timing is important to avoid duplicate/copied content, so implement the 301 redirects for all pages that are being redirected, as soon as the new pages on your main site are live.

Carry out a full URL Mapping exercise beforehand to ensure that all the current/old pages have a suitable home to be redirected to.

Also, use Google Webmaster Tools to inform Google of the change of access for those sub-domains once the redirects are in place, that will help with the indexing of the new locations on your main site.

Also, inbound links; some link juice is lost through a 301 redirect, so for any valuable links pointing to your sub-domains, try and get the links changed to point to the new respective pages on your main site.

          Hope that helps, Simon

I dont think you can do a G change of address for sub-domains.
