Traffic Alerts
-
I know that with the new version of google analytics coming out we're going to be able to see live data. My question is this.
- Is there a way that I can set something up where we're getting more traffic from some source we haven't got before and it's sending a lot of traffic.. I get alerted?
- I would also like to know if we're loosing or increasing traffic from a source by % percent that I get alerted.
When I say get alerted I mean: Something in the dashboard or somehow do this with GA or some other way?

Have you looked at http://www.woopra.com?

Actually this looks really cool. I never heard of it. Do you know if you can do this in google analytics? woopra looks pretty awesome though! I'm going to sign-up.

I don't think GA can do this currently. I use both GA and Woopra, and watch Woopra in real time.

Yea I have woopra going right now and google analytics real-time shows 48-50 (active visitors) woopra shows 18. it's so weird. The live chat thing is cool.

How do I set-up alerts that shows me when we're getting more traffic than normal from a x site?

I think it has to do with the different timeout settings. I use AliveChat and Woopra to monitor real time activity. The two initiate a session at the same time, but rarely terminate a session at the same time. Woopra often reports that someone is gone while still there, and AliveChat often says they are still there after they are gone.

This blog post applies to regular Google Analytics, but some of it might be applicable to the real-time version as well, or may be helpful to you in general. It's "7 Essential Google Intelligence Custom Alerts That Keep Me Sane" and looks at traffic increases, drops, etc.
